Introduction – It is a famous South Indian dish. This Coconut Chutney Recipe is traditionally made in North Indian homes and be eaten with South Indian dishes like masala dosa, idli sambar, and maidu vada, etc. you can eat it dry as well, it is very tasty to eat Coconut Chutney recipe is fresh and full of flavor as it is made from fresh coconut. You can make this chutney with both dry coconut and raw coconut, but it tastes better when made with raw coconut. In this recipe, cut raw coconut and put it in a blender jar, add some roasted gram and green chilies, ginger, and garlic and blend it, Mustard seeds crackled dried red chilies, and curry leaves in oil, Coconut is added to the chutney which gives an unforgettable taste develop to this chutney. Let’s start with making this delicious South Indian Coconut Chutney.

Coconut Chutney Recipe Ingredients: 

 

  • 1 –  Raw coconut (Big size)
  • 1/2 Cup –  Chickpeas (roasted)
  • 1/3 Cup – Fresh Curd
  • 1 inch – Ginger (chopped)
  • 2 – Green Chilli
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon – Salt (as per taste)
  • 1 service spn – Green Coriander Leaves (chopped)

For Tempering

  • 1 Sarvice spn – Mustard Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon – Mustard seeds
  • 2 –  Dry Red Chili 
  • 10 – Curry Leaves
  • 2 Pinch – Asafoetida
  • 1/4 teaspoon – Kashmiri Red Chilli (for color)

Coconut Chutney Recipe Instructions:

Step 1
First of all, we will break a raw coconut and take out the white part inside it, cut it into small pieces put it in a blender jar, and add our Chickpeas (roasted) curd, chopped ginger, chopped green chilies, cumin seeds, salt and 1/2 cup of water with it and make a smooth paste. Take care not to use too much water otherwise our chutney will become very thin. Take out the paste in a big ball and keep it aside.
Step 2
Now we will prepare the tempering for our coconut chutney. Will put a pen on top of the flame and pour one serving spoon mustard oil. When the mustard oil is well heated, add 1/2 teaspoon of mustard seeds and 2 dry red chilies inside it after breaking it. When the mustard seeds start to crackle, add curry leaves.
Step 3
When the curry leaves become crispy, take off the flem and put 2 pinch asafoetida and 1/4 teaspoon of Kashmiri red chili powder inside it.
Step 4

We will put this hot tadka (tempering) in our coconut chutney and mix it slowly. Taste the chutney and see if the salt is less then add salt according to your taste.

 Tips And Notes

 

1 – Coconut Chutney can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator by covering it tightly. This chutney can be used for two to three days.
2 – Some people also use roasted peanuts instead of roasted gram. You can use roasted peanuts if you want.
3 – While preparing Tadka in South Indian restaurants, Urad Dal is also added along with Mustard Seeds, this is optional, and you can also add Urad Dal.
4 – By increasing the amount of fresh green coriander, you can keep it color green and it also gives the taste of coriander.
