Associated with the religious festival of Shivaratri and the traditional festival of Holi, a symbol of joy and social unity, thandai has gone from being a favourite beverage in Indian households. Thandai is specially made on the Hindu religious festival Holi On the festival of Holi, people worship God in the temple by offering Thandai and distribute it in every house as Prasad. It is believed that Lord Shankar had consumed Bhaang Thandai, so some people also mix a small amount of finely ground Bhaang in this Thandai and consume it and distribute it as Prasad. When everyone colours each other with Holi’s colours, takes a bath, and wears new clothes. By consuming this thandai, all the tiredness of the body is removed and the body gets an energy boost.

You can make this Thandai paste in large quantities and store it in the refrigerator for four to five days. Whenever a special guest comes to your house, you can cool the boiled milk and serve this paste by mixing it with a balanced amount of milk. So this is how to make this delicious drink.

Thandai Recipe Ingredients:

 

  • 1 ltr –  Full cream milk
  • 25 gms –  Almonds (soaked and peeled)
  • 25 gms-  Cashews (soaked)
  • 25 gms – Pistachios (soaked)
  • 2 tbsp – Fennel seeds (soaked)
  • 2 tbsp – Watermelon Seeds (soaked)
  • 1 tsp – Green Cardamom (soaked)
  • 1 tsp – Black Pepper (soaked)
  • 1 tbsp – Dried rose petals
  • 2 tbsp – Rose Water
  • 2 pinchs – Saffron (soaked in warm milk)
  • 4 tbsp – Sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Half tbsp – Cinnamon Powder
  • Half tbsp – Nutmeg Powder

For Garnishing

  • 1 pinch – Saffron
  • 1 tsp – Almond (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp – Pistachios (finely chopped)

 

Thandai Recipe Direction:

 

Step 1

Except for milk and sugar, put all the ingredients mentioned above in a large bowl and soak them in water. Keep enough water to submerge the ingredients. Soak all the ingredients in water for about 1 to 2 hours.

 

 

Step 2

After about 1 hour, put all the ingredients which we had soaked in water in the mixer grinder jar along with water and prepare a fine paste. We will take out the paste and keep it in a glass bowl.

Step 3

Now we will put 1 liter full cream milk to boil in a large non-stick pan. When the milk boils well, add sugar to the milk as per taste. While stirring continuously, slow down the flame and let the milk boil for about 5 minutes. After this, turn off the flame.

Step 4

When the milk cools down, pour the cold milk into the mixer jar as many glasses as you want to serve Thandai and add two to three spoons of the blended paste and some ice cubes and mix well. Pour the Thandai into a glass and garnish it with chopped dry fruits and saffron. So our refreshing Thandai Recipe is ready, serve it chilled.

Tips And Notes  

 

1 – Whenever you make Thandai, you should always use full cream milk. If full cream milk is not available, then only you should use plain milk because Thandai made from full cream milk tastes very good.

2 – Store the Thandai paste in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days only, not for longer. If you want to make Thandai powder, do not soak all the ingredients in water. Put all the ingredients in a non-stick pan and roast them well on slow flame, let them cool and grind all the ingredients in a mixer grinder jar make a powder and keep it aside. And whenever you want to serve Thandai, pour the chilled milk into the shake jar, add the powder, mix it well and serve.

3 – Fresh rose leaves give a very nice flavour to Thandai. If you do not have fresh leaves, then you can add dried rose leaves. You can also serve Thandai by adding the Glukand inside it and Do not add any ingredients that you do not like in Thandai.
