Introduction—Hello friends, we welcome you to the Khana Khilana recipe blog. Today, we will tell you about a delicious snack recipe: Onion Pakoda. This crispy snack is easy to make and eat at any time of the day. In Maharashtra, onion is called Kanda, and pakodas are called Bhaji, so onion pakodas are called Kanda Bhaji.

Onion is a staple in the culinary world and is used in a lot of recipes. Onion has a mild sweetness in it, due to this, the mild sweetness of onion and the aroma and pungency of delicious spices in onion pakodas give a very good taste to onion pakodas, due to which people are often drawn towards eating it.

During the holy days of Ramadan, people of the Muslim community prepare different types of pakodas along with tasty onion pakodas during the evening roja iftari and break their fast with them. Therefore, these snacks are also called Ramadan special snacks.

To make these delicious crispy pakodas, the onion is peeled and cut into two parts and then finely sliced. A mixture is prepared by mixing it with a certain amount of gram flour and other aromatic spices along with chopped green chilies finely chopped ginger, and finely chopped coriander and mashing it well. This mixture is put in cooking oil in the shape of pakodas and deep-fried till it becomes crispy.

Another way to make this dish is by cutting an onion into thin round slices, dipping them in gram flour paste, and frying them till they are golden crisp Once prepared, it is served hot with coriander mint chutney, and tea. So let’s make this delicious crispy pakoda.

Onion Pakoda Ingredients:

 

  • 4 – Onion (half slice chopped)
  • 2 – Green chili (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon – Ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon – Green coriander (chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon – Salt (as per taste)
  • ½ teaspoon – Red chili powder (as per taste)
  • 1 teaspoon – Coriander powder
  • ½ teaspoon – Cumin (coarsely ground)
  • ½ – Lemon juice 
  • 1 tablespoon – Chaat masala
  • 500 gm – Besan (gram flour)
  • 1 tablespoon – Rice flour
  • 700 gm – Olive Oil (cooking oil)

 

Onion Pakoda Direction:

 

Step 1

Peel four large onions, cut them into two parts, and cut them into thin slices. Put them in a large bowl and add finely chopped green chilies, salt as per taste finely chopped coriander, er, and chopped ginger. Mash them well with clean hands and separate the onion slices and keep it for 10 minutes.

Step 2

After 10 minutes, add chili powder, half a teaspoon cumin powder, one teaspoon coriander powder, juice of half lemon, 4 tablespoons gram flour, and one tablespoon rice flour as per the taste of the onion and mix. If the pakoda looks dry inside the mixer, then pour a little water over it and mix it with the mixer by hand. Do not add too much water as there is already a lot of moisture present inside the onion.

Step 3

Now, to fry the onion pakodas, we will put cooking oil in a big non-stick pan and place it on the flame. When the oil becomes medium hot, then with the help of fingers, take small pieces of the mixture and put them in the hot oil in the shape of small pakodas.

Step 4

Put as many pakodas as can fit in the pan at one time. Let the pakodas rest on a medium flame for about 30 seconds. After that, turn the pakodas with the help of a slotted spoon and let them rest for another 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, increase the flame a little and fry the pakodas till they turn golden brown.

Step 5

When the pakodas become golden fried and crispy from all sides, take them out on a plate covered with tissue paper and make pakodas using the remaining onion mixer in the same way. So here our delicious onion pakodas are ready. Sprinkle chaat masala well over the pakodas and serve them hot.

Now we will tell you another way to make onion pakodas. For that, peel a big onion and cut it into thin round slices. And pick them up carefully and keep them on a plate so that their rings do not get separated. Now put 6 to 7 tablespoons of gram flour in a bowl add salt and red chili powder as per taste and prepare a thick paste by adding some water. Beat the paste well. There should be no lumps in it.

Now place a non-stick pan over the flame and pour cooking oil in it. When the cooking oil becomes medium hot, take the finely chopped onion slices and dip them in the gram flour paste. When the gram flour gets coated well from both sides, take them and put them in the hot cooking oil. 

Step 8

Coat as many onion slices as can fit in the pan at one time with gram flour paste and put them in hot oil in the same manner. When the slices are lightly roasted from one side, turn them over with a slotted spoon and let them fry well from the other side as well.

Step 9

Fry all the slices by turning them over on both sides till they turn golden brown. When all the slices are fried properly, take them out on a plate covered with tissue paper. Fry all the remaining onion slices till they turn golden in the same manner. So here our delicious crispy onion pakodas are ready. Sprinkle chaat masala well over the pakodas and Serve them with green coriander mint chutney, tomato ketchup and hot tea.

Tips And Notes

 

1 – You can also add curry leaves by breaking them into pieces in the onion pakoda mixer. The taste of curry leaves is very good in onion pakoda.

2 – Serve onion pakodas with spicy green chillies after deep frying them, sprinkle some chaat masala on them and serve. Pakodas taste very delicious with green chillies.
